About

Communicate what’s important to you
through a multimedia story.

Digital Storytelling is the modern expression of the ancient art of storytelling.

When we speak of storytelling, we do not mean the “once-up-a-time” fairy tales that we think belong only to the domain of children. Stories are the stuff that life and memories are made of — the stories of our lives shape us. History is story.

The easy accessibility of digital devices and tools make is possible for anyone to tell a digital story. We weave voice narrative with any combination of images, video clips, music, and sound to create a short 1-3 minute video.

Market Place

“A big part of a CEO’s job is to motivate people to reach certain goals. To do that the CEO must engage their emotions, and the key to their hearts is story. Forget about PowerPoint and statistics. To engage people at the deepest level, you need stories…” – A Conversation with Screenwriting Coach Robert McKee, Harvard Business Review

Education

The Ministry of Education implemented a new framework to better prepare our students to thrive in a fast-changing and highly-connected world. The diagram released by the Ministry of Education illustrates the 21st Century Competencies and Desired Student Outcomes.

The process of telling and crafting a story and then using digital media to present the story is a great way to realise many of these desired learning outcomes.

Communities

Storytelling can help to influence and unify communities by linking the past to the future. It gives communities a face and a voice. It can help people outside the communities step into the world of the storyteller. Listeners walk in the shoes of the storyteller. It helps them understand with their minds and feel with their hearts. Stories can move people to action.

Some examples include post-national calamities (earthquakes, tsunami, fires); voices for minority groups, migrants, prisoners; give voice to causes like environment and conservation issues, faith groups, etc.

Personal

Our stories shape us. They can be painful ones like seeing a loved one through cancer, or happy ones like remembering the old kampung house we grew up in, or silly ones that make us laugh at ourselves.

We have personal, family, community and national stories, which engage not just our minds but our emotions and which glue us together. Stories are heritage that we leave with our children and our children’s children.
