DSA goes to Wales

Posted by angel on 27 May, 2011

International Digital Storytelling Festival, Wales

Every June since 2006, facilitators and participants gather in Aberystwyth (Wales) for the International Festival of Digital Storytelling (DS). For the first time, an Asian storyteller is one of the keynote speakers.

Digital Storytelling Asia’s (DSA) founder, Singaporean Angeline Koh, will kick off the sixth digital storytelling festival (DS6) with her address on “Digital Storytelling in Multicultural Singapore.”

“The selection panel is very interested in the DS work you have been doing, particularly in the multicultural environment in Singapore,” said Esko Reinikainen, chairman, DS Cymru.

Organised by the Arts Centre, Aberystwyth University, the yearly event is Wales’ premier festival to celebrate international digital storytelling and is supported by the Arts Council of Wales, National Assembly of Wales and the BBC.

“Wales was the hub that ignited and spawned DS movements all over the UK and beyond. DS has come to Singapore even if only embryonic. I want to see DS become a movement in Asia. I look forward to learning from DS veterans who have blazed the DS path before us,” said Angeline Koh.

DS6 will be held on the 17 June 2011 at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Wales’ award winning and largest arts centre, recognised as a ‘national flagship for the arts’. The festival promises to inspire, encourage and show exciting possibilities of digital storytelling. DSA’s co-pioneer, Aurelia L Castro, will also participate in the festival.

“Whether you work in education, the community, or as an artist, this is your opportunity to share experiences, explore new creative ideas, see the latest technological developments, look at examples of best practise in the UK and worldwide and celebrate the growing significance of digital storytelling.”
