Sleepless in Denver Street

Most of them were still recovering from typhoon Ondoy that flooded Manila. Some had to travel far. A few were not sure what they got themselves into. The young ones just finished their exams in school. But more than 20 of them came anyway to attend our first overseas digital storytelling workshop with the Navigators in the Philippines.

Some had to stay longer nights at the Navigator headquarters (Denver Street, Cubao) or had to wake up early to work on their projects. “I was sleepless in Denver Street, but so glad to have it done!” one of the participants said.
No computer laboratory, some came without computers, some with very old ones, and Internet connection was intermittent. But everyone survived and made it! They overcame many of their initial fears of writing, handling the computer, doing their voice over, and most of all, the journey of looking into their personal stories about things, people, or time in their lives that matter to them.
“It was a good opportunity to revisit a chapter of my life that was powerful and pivotal for me…Intriguing that it (digital storytelling) is not just interesting and potentially fun – but also a spiritual exercise, an opportunity to look into one’s heart and to examine one’s life…” said Greg Haskell, a staff member of the Navigators (Philippines), an international Christian organization.
The Philippine Navigators invited Digital Storytelling Asia to conduct digital storytelling workshop among their staff, families, and friends last 16-18 October 2009.
Here’s what others have to say:
“The digital storytelling workshop went and finished well with a bang! It left a great impact among us who joined the workshop. It ministered to us deeply…All of us where ministered as we see how God has molded and remolded our lives. The workshop brought healing to a wounded soul…I highly recommend that for everyone!” Bobot Migraso, one of the country leaders
“I felt like coming out of an exciting adventure because this is really something new and difficult for me. Writing my story was actually very easy for me but the technical part was the thing that excited me the most.” Wina Viaje, staff member
“In making this story, I captured the moments, relive the memories and hold it in my heart forever. I can’t believe it! I am now a producer!…Thank you very much for sharing your talents and skills. I had fun. I liked the voice over part and editing. Great! Keep on keeping on! You are a good team! You have gone this far in reaching out the hearts of people through their own stories. Thanks a lot for investing your time!” Tess Vital, staff member

Thanks Daniel for the photos!
What a blessed project, Angel and Au!! I dream of a time when you could come and minister to us and work with us in a similar way here in Madison Wisconsin. I love story-ing: a group of us seven women met regularly for two years processing To Be Told by Dan Allender. This will be carrying it further. Our stories are powerful, threaded in The Larger Story!
Thank You, LORD, and thank you for your work of love!
